GIGABYTE GA-9IVDT/9IVDTHPlatforms for Mainstream Server
Apr 27, 2005

Apr. 27, 2005--- Taipei, Taiwan--- With GIGABYTE’s superior development capability and technique, GIGABYTE Technology is now introducing two new advanced server boards here at the same time: GA-9IVDT and GA-9IVDTH. By using Intel E7320 chipset, GA-9IVDT and GA-9IVDTH can easily support two of Intel’s newest Xeon processor that is running at 800MHz. Built upon 90 nm (nanometer) wafer fabrication process, this new generation processor can perform tasks much faster with larger cache (2MB) and, with more than ever, 64-bit capabilities. This 64-bit processor can manipulate data and instructions in 64-bit chunks, which means user will have larger memory size, faster and more accurate results in a server system with GA-9IVDT and GA-9IVDTH. But, the similarity stops here.

In order to accurately target the needs of different environments, these two boards use totally different approaches during the development process: cost cautiousness for GA-9IVDT and performance chaser for GA-9IVDTH.

In GA-9IVDT, customer can save operating cost with following features:
  • DDR2 400 memory:this type of memory provides faster transfer rate per clock cycle, which make data carried in a more rapidly fashion within the system.
  • Smaller form factor:dimension of this board, 12” (width) x 10.5” (depth), makes it fit into easier-to-find and cheaper chassis without any problem.
  • SATA (Serial ATA) connection:this interface can provide almost two-thirds of cost savings without sacrificing performance or security compared with traditional SCSI interface hard disk drives.
But, user can get performance wanted in GA-9IVDTH:
  • Faster and more expansions:with one PCI Express by 8, two PCI-X 64bit/66MHz and three PCI 32bit/33MHz slots, more devices can be populated into this board.
  • Dual channel SCSI controller:this controller enables user to connect up to 30 SCSI hard disk drives at the speed of 320MB/sec in a single server.
  • DDR 266/333 memory:this mainstream memory could support up to 24GB of memory, which fulfill the needs in a performance driven system.

Besides specifications mentioned above, these two boards also come with dual gigabit Ethernet controllers to make sure the communication among network is fast and reliable. Again, even though both server boards support same processor, but GA-9IVDT and GA-9IVDTH targets totally different market segments through the use of different components. It is upon user’s choice to the one that best fit into needs without any problem or concerns. This smart design and consideration demonstrated the superior capability of GIGABYTE Technology once more!
